During this hour there will be performances of Chinese Music, Chinese Dance, and yo-yoing!


Musical instruments used by the Ensemble include bowed strings, plucked strings, bamboo winds, and percussion. The Chinese Music Ensemble welcomes anyone interested in learning to play a Chinese musical instrument regardless of age and nationality. 


Jin Yun Chinese Dance Troupe was founded by a group of amateur dancers who are passionate in promoting Chinese culture through dance. Jia Yun Dance Troupe had performed at the various major events, to name a few: MIT, Bridgewater State College, various schools events, senior housing facilities, Chinatown festivals, Boston FIrst Night. This year Jia Yun dance troupe won the Gold award at the US regional TaoLi Cup CHinese dance competition. 


The GBCCA Chinese Yo-Yo Troupe is part of the Huaxin School of Arts at GBCCA, taught by Mr.Jeff  Lu. Members of the Yo-Yo Troupe have performed at Boston First Night, Boston Dragon Boat Festivals, Children’s Museum, Boston Science Museum, and many numerous events in Greater Boston area. Their performance features group, duet, and solo tricks, choreographed by Mr. Jeff  Lu.

All First Night activities taking place at the Boston Public Library will be ticketed and available prior to each performance on a first come first served basis. Each show has a limited number of tickets available dependent on room capacities. There are no advance reservations available or required to attend, all shows are free. Each show will repeat throughout the day, we encourage you to arrive early to secure your place in line. Stroller “parking” will be available in the McKim building near the children’s activities for your convenience, First Night and the BPL are not responsible for your belongings.
